- Arousa Sea and River Ulla Route
Through this route sailed the "Stone Boat"
The maritime crossing which arrived in the Ría of Arousa and the river Ulla, Galicia, with the mortal remains of Apostle Santiago the Great is commemorated with this pilgrim route. Santiago, who was murdered and beheaded under Herodes' rule in year 44, was as fisherman in Galilea, apostle of Christ and evangelist of the West.
As tradition says, although modified by the pass of time and the diferent texts and interpretations, were the disciples of Santiago who tidied up the mortal remains of the apostle, already beheaded, and departing from the East Mediterranean Sea and, coastal shipping along the iberian peninsula up to Iria Flavia, just nearby Padrón, brought the remains in Galicia.
In the church of Santiago de Padrón the Pedrón is preserved. The legend says that it was in that stone where the boat of the apostle was moored after such a long crossing.
Teodoro and Atanasio, both disciples of the apostle Santiago, achieved to reach the mount Libredón, where they buried the mortal remains of the Holy Apostle after living no few dangers due to possible clashes with the romans, already settled up in the village of Dugium, in the vicinity of Finisterre.
