La Puerta del Camino, Way's Gate, is the main entry in the old medieval town and the path which pilgrims followed to reach the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It is one of the old gates, the most important and the most used by pilgrims.

The pilgrim had recognised this very point as the end of the french way, which starts in Roncesvalles / Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port, on the borderline between Spain and France, and ends in Santiago de Compostela after 900 kilometers. The old town was a fortified town and had seven gates used as entries. Unfortunately, due to the growth of the city, this medieval wall was destroyed in the XIX century, but the layout of the old town, the names of the places and the gates still remain. Thanks to this wall the old town preserved that medieval flavour, the smell of incense and the sound of the stone which intensifies the echo of pilgrims arriving in Santiago.
