This statue of two old ladies represents two local women called "las dos en punto" ("2 o'clock") or "las dos Marias" (the 2 Marias).

They were two sisters which were a bit crazy because they lost their parents during the Civil war. Their names were Maruxa and Coralia and they were sisters. They always went out for a walk at 2 o'clock. They dressed in very bright colours and wore very heavy make-up. Old women in Spain didn't usually wear bright colours and many wore just black, so they were very outrageous for their time. They though that they were still pretty and young and they used to flirt with young students who were going to eat after morning classes. They were very famous and that?s why they have their own statue. They died some years ago.
Coralia died first and Maruxa never went out again and she died some months after his sister died.
